Saving Meghan by D.J. Palmer

Saving Meghan by D.J. Palmer🙂🙂❤❤👍👍

Saving Meghan reads like something out of the Newspaper.  A girl, sick seemingly with vague symptoms is at the crux of the story.  Her mother, Becky Gerard, is all over it.  She is constantly looking for more information trying to find an explanation as to why her daughter is so sick.  Everything is so vague. No one seems to know what is going on. Her husband, Carl seems to feel his wife, Becky is over reacting.  Finally, she finds a Dr. Fisher, a man who specializes mitochondrial disorder, and matches all the vague symptoms.  Then Munchausen by proxy was suggested and everything changes.

The chapters change the speaker and reading Meghan’s chapters about how she feels like her body is shutting off one switch at a time was really eerie.  I found myself finding everyone guilty at one point or another and was positive a couple of times that I was totally right only to be wrong. The twists did keep me interested although I felt the book was too wordy in other places.  Saving Megahn by D. J. Palmer was a ride of a read.

A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park

A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park🙂🙂❤❤👍👍

A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park is one of those reads that stay with you forever.  The book uses two story lines to share the story of children growing up in a dry, war torn country. The daily need for food and water are the key elements of Nya and Salva life.

What makes the story fascinating is that the stories are 20 years apart. Salva was one of the the lost boys of the Sudan.  His story is told almost without emotion - a relaying of facts and fears. Nya’s story, while much shorter is more poignant with her constant journey for water for her family.  The dangers outlined are so different from our ordinary life that it is hard to accept that there are places in the world where their life is normal.

This is the book, the students and I are reading this quarter.  Already the students are seeing the differences in their lives compared to Nya and Salva.  A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park is a great read.

The Texas Ranger by James Patterson and Andrew Bourelle

The Texas Ranger by James Patterson and Andrew Bourelle🙂🙂❤❤👍👍

James Patterson books seem to always catch my attention fully.  The writing styles fo the various authors that work with him seem to mesh sufficiently well for me to be all in.  That was the case in the new novel The Texas Ranger by James Patterson and Andrew Bourelle.

Rory Yates is a Texas Ranger.  He is bold and brash and sometimes does not wait before jumping into a conflict.  It has gotten him in trouble in his past. He gets a call from his ex-wife needing his help and decides to take some time to regroup, help Anne out and check in with his family.  Only nothing is quite that simple. By the time, he finishes the drive his ex-wife is murdered and he throws himself into the investigation, despite being on the list of suspects.  There are some nice twists and turns. There are family issues and perhaps even a new love interest. The story is a sold mystery with good elements.

I liked the character of Rory Yates, despite his need to be all that.   I liked the family dynamics and the small town feel. The Texas Ranger by James Patterson is a good read.

The President is Missing by Bill Clinton and James Patterson

The President is Missing by Bill Clinton and James Patterson🙂🙂👍👍👍

The President is Missing by James Patterson and Bill Clinton is a fabulous read. There is suspense, subterfuge, backdoor politics, terrorism, betrayal and a fast paced plot that holds your attention! To me the scariest part is how real it could be!

My favorite quote from the book:

“What does it mean to be an American today?  It’s a question that will answer itself if we get back to what’s brought us this far: widening the circle of opportunity, deepening the meaning of  freedom, and strengthening bonds of community. Shrinking the definition of them and expanding the definition of us. Leaving no one behind, left out, looked down on.”

“We must get back to that mission.  And do it with both energy and humility, knowing that our time is fleeting and our power is not an end in itself but a means to achieve more noble and necessary ends.”

“The American Dream works when our common humanity matters more than our interesting difference and when together they create endless possibilities.”

Second Rancher by Kate Pearce

Second Chance Rancher by Kate Pearce🙂🙂❤❤❤👍👍

Second Chance Rancher by Kate Pearce is the first book in a new series about families that live in the high Sierras and have ranches.  Morgantown is the home of the Millers as well as the Morgans. This particular novel is about Daisy Miller and Jackson Lymond.  Two scarred souls who need each other but do not realize it right away.

Jackson has returned from the Air Force and is working with his brother Caul around the family's ranch.  He is not sure what he wants to do yet, but he feels good ranching right now. Daisy came home after a horrendous incident on Silicon Valley left her broken.  She has been designing flowers from her flower shop but has a secret part time gig that is getting harder and harder to hide from her brothers ( noisy big brothers mostly).  She and Jackson come to an understanding and they begin “dating”.  The story slowly relays the backstories that they have hidden from themselves never mind each other.  And the chemistry is off the market… Things turn more real until a few problems pop up.

Second Chance Rancher by Kate Pearce is a great modern day romance with all the cowboys you can imagine.

Shattered Silence by Marta Perry

Shattered Silence by Marta Perry 🙂🙂❤❤👍👍

Shattered Silence by Marta Perry was a clean contemporary romantic thriller.  The story highlights the main character, Rachel. Her ex husband seems to have disappeared with key information about his company’s newest ideas.  Rachel was the last to see him as she wanted him to sign the paperwork to put the house on the market. Only that brief meeting starts a series of events that has caused Rachel to be attacked which sends Rachel on the run to her family to hide.  Only she is not even safe there! Meanwhile a private investigation firm is also tracking down Rachel’s ex-husband and are determined to keep safe.

I loved Rachel’s family and how caring they were.  I loved how Clint fit in with her family and how he was not perfectly suave, but a character struggling to find his way forward.  Rachel and Clint work to figure out what happened and what would happen next. Rachel was determined to hear and speak the truth. Clift often had his foot in mouth.

Shattered Silence is the third book in a series called Echo Falls.  Marta Perry has written a book that brings you along on an adventure with twists and turns.  The story certainly shook Rachel’s trust, but allowed her to find a new path. Shattered Silence was a good read.

Faking It by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde

Faking It by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde 🙂🙂❤❤👍👍

A professional matchmaker looking for her newest digs meets a realtor who really digs her. Faking It by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde is another sexy, hot book!  Hailey is a professional matchmaker and is looking into purchasing a new space to work out of.  Max, her realtor, thinks she is hot, but does not mix business with pleasure.  Hailey has made up a fake fiance to help her out, after all every matchmaker should have a match for herself.  However, before she can even ask, Max jumps in to help her out and a bargain is made.  We know that nothing is ever that easy and there are always people who want to make problems.  A minefield for Max and Hailey is ahead…

I love the duo of Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde!  Their books are fun, hot, sexy reads! Read Faking It!

Take Me Again by Carly Phillips

Take Me Again by Carly Phillips🙂🙂❤❤👍👍

Take Me Again by Carly Phillips is the first book in a brand new series, The Knight Brothers.  We are introduced to the Knight Family, three brothers and one sister (Ethan, Parker, Sebastian and a baby sister, Sierra) in New York City.  They run a security type firm that specializes in locks.

The books starts with Ethan’s wife’s death.  Sebastian raced to be at his brother’s side as did Ashley.  Ashley was a step sister for a while, when the Knight father married Ashley’s mother (They divorced later.) Ashley was sent away after being found in a compromising position with Sebastian (they were both just teenagers). This was the first time that they had seen each other since then.

Sebastian is not willing to let her go again.  Ashley really does not want to have anything to do with him.  However Sebastian and Ashley can’t seem to stay away from each other and are thrown together often by the family.

I love second chance romances and I love Carly Phillips’ writing.  I enjoyed reading about the Knight family and will look for the new books in the series when they come out.  Take Me Again by Carly Phillips was a good read.
